"The
Glamazons" are the brainchild of Meryl "Lady" Finger. After
strutting her stuff and flaunting her ass-ets in the downtown NYC cabaret/burlesque
scene, Meryl longed to perform with other tall, full figured gals like herself.
Her dream was to show the world that talent comes in all sizes, and plus
size women can make sexy showgirls. She auditioned girls from all walks of
life, and her vision was put on stage. A bevy of buxom song and dance beauties
were born. The name "Glamazons" was derived by Meryl, and is a
perfect fit for these Glamorous Amazons!
Members have changed since the start of the group in 2001, but Meryl fought
to keep her vision alive. Candy Apple (Sandra May) was discovered at an open
call in January 2004 and the duo remained steady until they met Caramella
(Laura Johnson), a plus size model, in May
2005 at a photo shoot for a book called "Big
Girl Knits" (released
April 2006, a book of knitting patterns for plus size gals). They found Ginger
Snap (Sarah Orr) at a 12 week contest entitled "America's Next Top Glamazon" held
at a NYC nightclub during the summer of 2006.
The foursome clicked immediately and have an unbelievable dynamic, especially
when it comes to tight harmonies and precision choreography.
They are strong,
sexy, plus size women who can sing anything from showtunes to hip hop.
"The Glamazons" have performed at top NYC clubs including The Roxy, Webster Hall, The Supper Club and The Rainbow Room, as well as numerous nightclubs and theatres across the U.S. They have also appeared on The Insider, Entertainment Tonight, and Access Hollywood as well as in numerous national publications.
In 2007, The Glamazons rocketed in grand fashion from auditions to the Top 8 of NBC's America's Got Talent. The girls have just finished the post-competition run in Branson, MO with the other Top 10 acts at the Dutton Family Theatre and were tapped to sing the National Anthem for the NFL's Minnesota Vikings October 28th game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
